About Horolator

What this is

Horolator is a browser-based design environment for mechanical watch movements: a standards library, 52 calculators, a gear-train designer and a simulation stand, sharing one project and one discipline. It exists for one reason: to raise a watchmaker's capacity — to check more, guess less, and take on work you couldn't take on yesterday.

It is currently in free public beta. Everything is open; the beta's price is your scrutiny.

The data rule

One rule governs every number in the app: it must be traceable. Library tables cite the NIHS standard they come from. Calculators show their formulas and name their assumptions. Gear geometry is constructed from the published profile constants, not eyeballed. Where a value cannot be sourced, the app says so plainly rather than inventing one — an honest “not found” beats a confident guess.

That rule is also why the beta invites correction: a tool that claims traceability must survive being checked. If your bench disagrees with a table, we want to know which one of us is wrong.

Who makes it

Horolator is built by a watch artisan from Jyväskylä, Finland, working under the name Reigi. It began as the workshop's own toolbox: the arithmetic the work demands, turned into tools precise enough to trust.

It is shared because the craft grows when its arithmetic is open. The maker's own watches live at reigi.fi.

The beta, honestly

Public beta means: complete enough to be useful, young enough to have wrong corners. Layouts may shift. A table may hold an error that survived review. The simulation makes first-order simplifications it labels as such. When something breaks, the in-app Feedback button is read by the person who builds this — usually the same week.

We do not promise “free forever”, because that promise is not ours to make yet. We promise open export formats and plain answers.
